For those of you who do not know, this year I am undertaking the Bar Professional Training Course (or BPTC for short), in order to complete the first few steps in becoming a fully qualified barrister.
In order to become a barrister a student must join one of the four Inns of Court. They are, The Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn, The Honourable Society of the Inner Temple, The Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn, and The Honourable Society of the Middle Temple. I have joined the latter.
In order to ‘be called to the bar’ students need to complete 12 qualifying sessions which typically involve a lecture or some other form of educational element, served up with food and drink.
Over the course of Sunday and Monday I shall be completing three more qualifying sessions, one at Sunday Lunch, and two at the Education day on Monday. Not only is it a great opportunity to ‘network’ but also enjoy the company of some of my MMU course mates who are also going down over a bottle or two of Inn wine.
The Inn itself has been used for several TV programmes, including some scenes of the BBC legal drama Silk, and the Temple Hall (as my sister keeps reminding me) was where ‘The Great Hall’ from Hogwarts was filmed.
The only downside is that tomorrow, my taxi will be calling to collect me at 07:00, and I arrive back in Manchester around midnight on Tuesday, with a full days of classes starting at 09:00.
I suppose its all training for life at the Bar!
