Free Remote Support By Join.me

Following on from my post yesterday about my brothers lost computer, I am pleased to say that he has since got a new Retina MacBook Pro thanks to his insurance. However one of the things that happens when you get a new computer is that it needs setting up.

Sometimes things can be restored totally from a backup, but there are occasions where the person setting up the computer needs a helping hand.

To be honest, you needn’t have known someone who has lost their computer in order for them to have a problem, and the chances are that if you are quite knowledgeable in computers, your friends and family will often get in touch with you when they have an issue that needs resolving.

It is at these points in time that you wish you could see their screen, as no matter how computer savvy you are, not being able to see whats going on at the remote machine hinders supporting that user to a point where you almost give up and just say “I need to see your screen to help you”.

Previously you could share a scree with Skype, however since being bought out by Microsoft this is now a premium feature. However all is not lost thanks to Join.me.

Join.me is brought to you by the people at LogMeIn and is an easy to use program that allows you to not only share your screen, or view someone else’s screen, but control that persons computer.

The impressive thing is that you don’t even need to create an account. In order to get a session going just head over to Join.me and select either ‘share your screen’ or enter in the code someone has given you to view theirs. A small program will then download to your computer and thats it.

Honestly it couldn’t be any easier than that.

Ive been using Join.me for several months, and its perfect for those moments where someone you know has an issue with their computer that you want to help them out with.

Being able to see the remote computers screen, makes supporting friends and families technical needs that much easier.
