“G” Is For Grandparents

How could ‘G’ be for anything other than Grandparents? In truth it couldn’t, especially as D was for David and F was for Father.

I have been told that being a grandparent is much easier than being a parent, however either this is the case, or my grandparents were/are just naturals at it.

Unlike many, I was fortunate enough to know both sets of grandparents, and even met my great grandmother when I was a couple of days old!

I have already mentioned in my post about David, we shared many a happy moment at my Dad’s parents, Grandma Berenice and Grandpa Leslie. These include playing New Market, watching The Crystal Maze and listening to Just William.

However that was not all, I remember them taking us to car boot sales, being fed the most amazing chicken and latkes in the whole world, and for some bizarre reason, being obsessed with the Ewbank! One time we were there we went to a fairground and both came back with goldfish (much to the surprise of our parents), however they quickly died when they were fed blutack – don’t ask!

My other grandparents on my mums side, Grandma Ruth and Grandpa Leonard have also given us happy memories. Just like with Grandma Berenice and Grandpa Leslie, we slept over many-a-time. David and I helped out at the office with Grandpa with the franking of the mail, we helped Grandma with the shopping at John Lewis, and watched the dancing mushrooms off Fantasia more times than I care to remember.

I know I speak on behalf of all of their grandchildren when I say we love(d) them lots and lots.

Surely, two of the most satisfying experiences in life must be those of being a grandchild or a grandparent.” ~Donald A. Norberg
